1.What is your name/pen name?
Angela Brown. For my middle grade (MG) stories, I go by A. L. Brown.
2.What do you write? Genre?
I write across the spectrum, from MG to YA, but for #Pit2Pub, I focused on my MG story which is a fantasy: a fairy tale mashup.
3.Tell us about yourself?
I’m a single mom, a chocoholic, full time employed corporate peon, and part time dreamer/doer. I tend to be serious and am thankful to have a kiddo who’s silly enough for the both of us. As serious as I may get, I try to always live life instead of just existing, and writing is key to making that happen.
4.What prompted you to pitch your book in #Pit2Pub?
When I ran across #Pit2Pub, I’d recently finished another round of revisions on Fable Ranger: Summons and was considering what I wanted to do. I liked my story before the updates and felt really good about it after. #Pit2Pub offered a unique way to get my story in front of some pretty awesome literary agents and editors. With 140 characters, I could catch the eye of someone to help make my dream of publishing Fable Ranger a reality. So I dove into it.
5.Tell about your #Pit2Pub experience.
I enjoyed #Pit2Pub. A few agents and a couple of editors expressed interest in my story. I have to admit, that was the most exciting time, chasing through the Twitter feed and seeing who showed interest and reading other pitches that were so awesome it was almost daunting to have my pitch among them.
6.Which publisher did you sign with?
I signed with Dingbat Publishing. Gunnar is great! The one thing that really helped me narrow my decision was Gunnar’s enthusiasm for my story from the beginning. That’s what I really wanted, someone as excited for my story as me
7.Tell us about your upcoming book.
Fable Ranger: Summons is a MG fairy tale mash up. It’s the story of a young girl’s unexpected call to save a realm where godmothers have gone missing, good magic is on the decline, and fairy tales are doomed to scary never afters if the evil Dovetail has his way.
8.When is your book scheduled to be released?
Fable Ranger: Summons was released February 2016.
9.What is at the top of your bucket list?
Is it a bad thing that I don’t exactly have a bucket list?
10.Parting words for other authors?
Always bear in mind that your writing journey is your own. It’s easy to get caught up in comparing our experiences to the dazzle of success we see others experiencing. What we don’t know is what others have gone through to get where they are.
