Young Adult fiction, my first novel is a YA fantasy
3. Tell us about yourself?
I studied English and Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and won the Bill Hooks Award for Young Adult Fiction in 2007. I’m also a full-time paralegal, amateur photographer, and zealous reader. I live in beautiful North Carolina with my husband, two young children, two dogs, and one cat who thinks he’s a dog.
4. What prompted you to pitch your book in #Pit2Pub?
I had just finished my second round of edits on my manuscript at the end of January and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. I was a Twitter newbie and was scrolling through my Twitter feed when I saw the #Pit2Pub event. I read up on it a bit, composed a pitch for The Runaway Queen, and posted it, all within an hour or so.
5. Tell about your #Pit2Pub experience.
My pitch had several likes within the first couple of hours, and I immediately began researching the publishing companies and their submission guidelines. After initial submissions, I had a few rejections and also a few requests for the full manuscript.
6. Which publisher did you sign with?
I ended up signing with Fantasy Works Publishing.
7. Tell us about your upcoming book.
The Runaway Queen is a YA high fantasy and the first in what I anticipate will be a trilogy called The Mondragon Chronicles.BLURB: After her traitorous uncle tries to murder her and seize the throne, 18-year-old Ruby Mondragon flees the kingdom of Furia in a desperate attempt to survive.
Her escape takes her to Draconia, where Aodhan Dracen, a young king with something to prove, sits on the throne, and later into the Talons, a mystical mountain range where all of the ancient legends truly exist. Struggling to evade her captors, Ruby encounters a mysterious stranger who opens the door to the secrets buried deep in the mountains and in the stranger’s heart.
With danger lurking around every corner, Ruby must summon the courage to face her enemies and fight for a throne she never wanted, a king she doesn’t know, and the queen she never knew lived inside of her.
8. When is your book scheduled to be released?
It’s currently in edits but I hope it will be released in 2016 or early 2017.
9. What is at the top of your bucket list?
Having a published book! Right below that would be traveling abroad, particularly to France and Ireland.
10. Parting words for other authors?
Good luck to everyone participating in #Pit2Pub! It was truly a life-changing experience for me. And if you don’t find what you need in #Pit2Pub, don’t give up. Keep writing and keep pitching until you find the right fit for you!
