1.  What is your name?
My name is Heather Eagar, and that is the name I write under.

2. What do you write?
I mostly write Young Adult novels, but I’d like to write Middle-grade and Adult novels in the future.  My recent release is Historical Fantasy, but I am working on a contemporary YA as well. I don’t like to limit myself to any one thing.

3.  Tell us about yourself.
I currently reside in Logan, Utah where I attempt to balance my love of writing with raising a husband and two kids. Devil’s Playground is my debut novel, but it will not be my last. I am currently working on the sequel, as well as a contemporary YA novel. In addition to writing, I am also a book reviewer and you can find reviews for Middle-grade fiction through Adult novels on my website, www.heatheraeagar.com If I ever had time, I would go back to playing racquetball, hiking and camping.

4.  Why did you enter #Pit2Pub?
I entered #pit2pub because I think social media is a fantastic and fun way for editors/agents to connect with writers. I highly recommend it!

5. Tell us about your #pit2Pub experience.
My #pit2pub story is kind of interesting, actually. The day of the event I was thrilled to receive requests from several editors. But my current publisher was not one of them. As the editors read my submitted materials, they had wonderful things to say about it, but it wasn’t quite right for them. (Not enough horror, etc.)

One of the editors said, “This sounds amazing, but it’s not right for us. You know who it would be perfect for is Clean Reads Publishing. They were planning on being at the event, but because of a family emergency, they weren’t able to be there.” And then about a month after the event, Clean Reads Publishing favorited my tweet. I submitted it to my editor, Stephanie, and got the contract a few weeks later. It’s been the best place for both me and my novel, DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND, and I couldn’t be happier.

6. Which publisher did you sign with?
Clean Reads Publishing J (Formerly Astraea Press)

7.  Tell us about your book.
Devil’s Playground is YA Historical Fantasy and takes place during the Salem Witch Trials. A sixteen-year-old girl who lives in Salem is actually a witch, having to hide who she is, for obvious reasons. But when innocent women are accused of witchcraft, she uses her magic to try to help…but she makes things worse instead when she accidentally curses the village. I use real people from the witch trials in combination with fictional characters, which makes it more exciting.

8.  When was your book released?
Devil’s Playground
, was released digitally January 12th. The print edition is coming soon. I hope to have the sequel released next year.

9.  Bucket List Item.
My Bucket List…that is such a tough question because I want to do so many things. But let me tell you about the biggest thing.8.  I would love to be instrumental in establishing a rating system for books, similar to movies, video games, etc. This could be something that is implemented by the publishing companies themselves, but I feel that readers of all ages need this service. There have been so many times when I want to pick out a book for a teenager, my sister, or my mom. I go to get them a book by a bestselling author, and then find out later that it had a lot of language, graphic violence, or sex in it. I wish I have known the content beforehand. Some people I know, it doesn’t really matter. But for many others, it definitely does.

I’m not asking for censorship, just a way for the consumer to be aware. How great would it be if a mom could flip over a book her teenage daughter is reading, and instantly know what kind of content is in it. And I want to be a part of bringing this to reality. A tall order, I know.

10.  Parting words?
If you believe in your story, don’t give up on it. But also don’t be afraid to slice, dice, and shred your story until you have the best story possible. It won’t be at its best until it’s gone through the refiner’s fire.
